How to cook perfect eggs

Store BeepEgg together with the real eggs
Simultaneously place BeepEgg and the real eggs in the pan
Boil together until the tunes play
Rinse off BeepEgg and real eggs together

BeepEgg constantly measures the temperature. With this data, it calculates the inner temperature of the egg. BeepEgg knows which level of doneness has been reached at which inner temperature. It is important to store BeepEgg with the chicken eggs to have an identical starting temperature. Place BeepEgg and chicken egg in the pan simultaneously. It does not matter if you start from cold or boiling water. Neither does it matter if you boil one chicken egg or a dozen, nor if you’re in the mountains (high altitude) or at sea level (low altitude).

Once the egg has reached the right temperature for the demanded level of hardness, BeepEgg will play a tune. Then, simply rinse off BeepEgg and chicken egg with cold water (stops cooking process of the chicken egg and shuts BeepEgg up). Now simply enjoy the perfectly boiled egg.

FAQs

How does BeepEgg work?

BeepEgg measures the water-temperature. With this data, it calculates the inner temperature of the egg. The inner temperature can be calculated via a differential equation and mirrors the exact state of egg white and egg yolk, as we know [egg]sactly at which temperature egg yolk coagulates. Once the egg has reached the right temperature for the demanded level of hardness, BeepEgg will play a tune, signaling the specific doneness the egg yolk has reached by then. BeepEgg is precise under all conditions; you can start the egg boiling process with cold water, which makes pricking the egg (to prevent eggshell cracking) obsolete. BeepEgg always works no matter if you start with cold or boiling water. Just store BeepEgg and real egg together and put them in your pan at the same time.

One of BeepEgg’s big advantages is that it works according to temperature and not merely time. This means that BeepEgg even works when water is not really boiling or at altitudes where water boils below or above 100°C. You can start from cold or boiling water, use it at all altitudes and boil as many eggs as you like at once. Just store it together with the real eggs before using it.

Does BeepEgg work at all altitudes?

Yes, it does. Since it works according to temperature and not merely time. Only the actual temperature has an impact on the level of hardness inside the egg. This means that BeepEgg works at all altitudes, even if water is not really boiling or at altitudes where water only boils below or above 100°C. BeepEgg is always precise. In the mountains as well as at sea level.

Where to store BeepEgg?

Simply with the real eggs. It does not matter where that is. BeepEgg works according to a thermal model, meaning it is only [egg]sact if it has the same temperature as the real eggs. An ideal storing place would be the fridge.

Do I have to start with cold or boiling water?

It does not matter. You can start your boiling process with cold, warm or boiling water. If you start from boiling water, you should prick the eggs before placing them in water (you can spare that starting from cold water). You also save a bit of energy starting from cold, as you use the energy “on the way” to boiling for the cooking process. Start as you like, just store BeepEgg and real egg together beforehand.

Does BeepEgg take the eggs’ size into consideration?

BeepEgg is optimized for medium to large sized eggs. Tunes will be repeated, to fine-tune the egg and to take size into consideration (melody played first time = rather small egg / melody played last time = rather large egg). If you want to boil an extra-large egg, wait ca. 30 seconds after the last melody for the desired degree has played. The size’s influence is not as huge as in an egg boiler, though. Give it a try.

Why is BeepEgg switchless? How do I turn it on?

BeepEgg is always active. It does not need switches, since it is working according to a thermal model and constantly measures the temperature (in a more or less stand-by mode under a certain temperature, though, to safe energy). BeepEgg is ideal for all technophobes, since you do not have to set anything. You need an engineering degree creating it, but not using it.

What are the simple beeps in the beginning all about?

The first beep signals that the battery is alright. When the second beep occurs, water has reached boiling temperature. You can reduce the heat now, since the energy in the water is now sufficient to boil the egg completely. Once the right tune for the demanded level plays, your egg will be ready. The tunes will be played several times, making individual fine-tuning possible and taking size into consideration.

How do I find out if a BeepEgg can do all levels of doneness or just one?

Almost all BeepEgg editions are for three levels, playing one tune for soft, one for medium and one for hard. For the German and the French market, we still have the single tune eggs which serve one level of hardness only. For the rest of the world, we only have three tune eggs which work for all levels of hardness. Meaning if you are “from the rest of the world”, every BeepEgg you can purchase at home will be for all levels of harness, playing one tune for soft-boiled, one for medium, and one for hard boiled eggs. Only if you come across the names Detlef (soft), Schantall (medium) and Hartmut (hard), you must know what you are doing, as those are one level only.

Is it possible to boil more than one egg at a time using one BeepEgg?

Yes, of course. One BeepEgg can monitor as many eggs at a time as you want to boil. The more eggs you boil, the longer it takes (another BeepEgg advantage, since a time based model would be imprecise, here, as the number of eggs in the water influence the time to get the water to boil).

Is it possible to use BeepEgg in a regular egg cooker?

No, that’s not a good idea, since the plastics might melt without water. It doesn’t make sense anyway (Boiling eggs with BeepEgg also saves money on your electricity bill, compared to an egg cooker).

How do I get BeepEgg to “shut up” once the eggs are ready?

Rinsing it off under cold water helps. After 15 seconds, BeepEgg will be silent. An alternative is to put BeepEgg back into the fridge, though this will take little longer.

The No-No’s. Which “treatment” is not good for BeepEgg?

Never try to use BeepEgg in a microwave. It would be a lethal verdict. Never use a pan without water, since the plastic shell would melt.

Is BeepEgg really “Made in Germany”?

Yes, BeepEgg is ”Made in Germany”. Production takes place nearby Bielefeld; most components are sourced from regional suppliers. Brainstream focuses on quality and flexibility and can guarantee short lead times.

Is it possible to exchange the battery, how can I tell it’s flat?

No, for food safety reasons it is not possible to exchange the battery as it is encapsulated. We grant a 2-year warranty, though. It usually lasts 3-4 years. Once the water reaches 47°C, BeepEgg will make a sound. That beep signals that BeepEgg is alright. If that beep does not sound please dispose of BeepEgg. Lay it on its side and push heavily until the shell opens up. Remove the inner electronic part and dispose of it as you would with any other battery. The battery is food safe and encapsulated.

Is it possible to boil several eggs after one another in the same water with BeepEgg?

Generally, yes. But BeepEgg has to have the same temperature as the real eggs. BeepEgg has to be stored with the real eggs for about 30 minutes, before reusing it. Otherwise, the eggs will be too soft. Note: BeepEgg and real egg have to have the same temperature. So for that purpose, you’d either need more than one BeepEgg, or some time.

Where can I buy BeepEgg?

Well, right here. Other than that…it depends where you reside. Some countries have a solid distribution, others not, yet. In most countries specialized gift or houseware shops will be the right place to look for BeepEgg. If you cannot find any near you, please contact us and we’ll point you in the right direction.
